We ensure the safety of our SuperDecks before they go out for rent, while they are in use on site, and upon their return through our rigorous safety processes. These safe work procedures include thorough inspections and testing of our equipment, on site orientation to teach proper usage, as well as regular maintenance and replacement of parts when required.  

In this article, we provide an overview of processes that ensure our SuperDecks not only meet but exceed regulatory requirements.  

• Pre-delivery inspection 

A detailed inspection is conducted before a SuperDeck® is deemed ready for a new client. For quality assurance, we follow a pre-delivery checklist. We inspect all parts of the SuperDeck® to ensure they function correctly, checking the doors and side panels as well as examining the bolts and nuts for signs of wear or corrosion. Any required maintenance is then undertaken, followed by cleaning as well as repainting if needed. 

Before delivering the SuperDeck® to our client, we perform any optional testing that has been requested. We offer our clients the option of non-destructive testing (NDT). An independent engineering company carries out NDT to evaluate the structural integrity and properties of the deck’s material and components.

• On-site orientation 

Once the deck is on site, Preston Rentals’ staff then perform a safe work procedure orientation for the client. This is to ensure all personnel know how to safely use the SuperDeck®, including correct installation, lifting, and relocation or removal procedures.  

We developed a thorough safe work procedure in accordance with WCB and CSA standards. For each step involved in using our SuperDeck®, we outline the potential hazards/risks and detail the safety control measures.

• Installation 

The installation procedure varies depending on province. In British Colombia, to install the SuperDeck® into a building, a client site structural or temporary works engineer must provide design drawings and give approval. If the client doesn’t have their own engineer, we offer the engineering as a package. Once approved, Preston Rentals staff (or certified members of the client’s team) then complete safe installation into the building by following our safe work procedure. 

• SuperDeck® site safety checklist 

A Preston Rentals staff member carries out a site safety inspection before putting the SuperDeck® into service. We then provide a copy of this site safety checklist to the client so they can ensure proper usage of the SuperDeck® throughout their rental period. This is particularly useful if they will be moving the deck.   

• Quality inspections 

Preston Rentals staff will return to a client’s site and perform quality inspections at random intervals. We perform a site safety inspection again, with any recommendations implemented by the client.  

• Equipment return inspection

When a SuperDeck® is returned to us, we conduct another inspection and follow a detailed checklist for quality assurance. A staff member goes over the structure of the deck, checking for any damage or missing parts. This is rectified before the SuperDeck® is deemed ready for rent again.

You do not need a licence to retract or extend a SuperDeck®. Your Preston Rentals team will provide Op Fam and demonstrations on how easy it is to do this operation if required. A licence is needed to install a deck, but not to operate it.  

2. How many people are required to retract a SuperDeck®? 

One person is sufficient to retract a SuperDeck®.

3. Does a SuperDeck® need a power lead? 

No! After installing your SuperDeck®, it is ready for action. There is no need for a power supply, no monthly test and tag requirements, and no risk of downtime due to electric failure. 

4. How long does a SuperDeck® take to retract? 

Thanks to its innovative, simple design, our SuperDecks take less than 20 seconds to retract.  

5. What sizes are SuperDecks available in? 

Nationally, Preston Rentals provides SuperDecks in 2.2, 2.6, 3.2 and 4.2 metre sizes. We can also work closely with you should you have a special requirement.  

6. How long does it take to install a SuperDeck®? 

At Preston Rentals, we deliver and install SuperDeck® loading platforms directly to your worksite. We’ll also liaise with engineering partners to meet any specific project requirements you might have. We advise a timeframe of approximately 20 minutes to install a SuperDeck®, pending site readiness.
